Bondid Peak is a mountain peak located in the Karakoram mountain range, in the Kanday Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Its estimated height is around 6,660 meters (21,847 feet). It’s considered a “trekking peak” due to its challenging but achievable climb compared to some of the surrounding giants.
Bondid Peak isn’t as well-known as some other peaks in the Karakoram, but it attracts climbers seeking a challenging ascent in a less crowded area. It’s considered a good choice for those who have already climbed other 6,000-meter peaks and are looking for the next step.
Unforgettable views: Reaching the summit rewards climbers with breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding mountains, including some of the world’s highest peaks like K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II.
Relatively easy access: Compared to some other remote peaks in the Karakoram, the trek to Bondid Base Camp is considered relatively easy to access, taking around two days.
Potential for exploration: The Bondid Valley offers opportunities for exploration and climbing other un-ascended peaks in the area, making it a chance to be part of mountaineering history.
Bondid Peak still presents a significant challenge. Keep in mind:
High altitude: The climb takes place at high altitude, requiring proper acclimatization and fitness to deal with thin air and harsh conditions.
Technical climbing: While not requiring extensive technical skills, the climb may involve sections with glaciers, crevasses, and steep snow slopes, demanding experience with appropriate equipment and techniques.
Limited information: As a less-frequented peak, finding detailed information and guide services compared to more popular mountains might be more challenging.
Currently, there’s no requirement for a climbing permit or liaison officer to climb Bondid Peak. However, it’s advisable to inform local authorities and seek guidance from experienced guides familiar with the area’s conditions for a safe and successful climb.
