ibeks , wild , genus Capra, found in rugged country on mountain ranges from central Asia to the Karakoram ,Himalayas,Hindukush, Europe, and NE Africa. Ibexes are surefooted and agile, they usually travel in small herds of about a dozen animals, feeding on a wide variety of vegetarian. Most of the isolated populations of the various ranges are races of the single species Capra ibex and differ chiefly in the size of their horns.

Ibexes are brown to gray, from 21/2 to 31/2 ft (76-106 cm) tall at the shoulder, and very sturdily built. The chin is bearded, and the tail is short.

The long, heavily ridged horns of the male curve up, back, and downward; in the Alpine race they form a semicircle and measure 30 in. (76 cm) along the edge. In some other races the male has still longer horns. The horns of the female are short and point straight back.

Hunting Rules:

Hunting rules in the valley are strict. It’s restricted to the relatively dry mountains of the inner Himalaya,Karakoram and Hindukush between 3200 to around 3500 m.It inhabits most of the higher mountain range across all of the Gilgit Baltistan district and northern Kashmir.Decembr to March is suitable for Ibex as the snow brings them to lower areas. The hunting areas are 900’-12000’and average of this spice of 36’’-40’’ horn lenth.There are several good community managed areas where good trophies can be hunted.Karakoram blu sheep is recently opened and can be hunted in far north corner of the country.Shimshal and north KVO are two communities where limited permits are available. The hunting period is October through November and march.Elevetaion is 1200’-15.000.Govt of Pakistan issues special permits in coordination with WWF each year for certain area and certain old age animals.
